Taste wines at the Pour on the Porch and Celebrate Service with Steppin’ In It on May 18

The Traverse City Wine & Art Festival will hold our annual “Pour on the Porch” on Friday, May 18 from 5:30 – 7 PM on the porch of Salone de Capelli at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons. It’s a chance to sample wines from many of our 27 wineries and to purchase your advance tickets.

We will also be accepting donations to support AmeriCorps VISTA at the pour, and following the Pour (rain or shine), you’re invited to Celebrate Service in Traverse City as last year’s Traverse City Wine & Art Festival headliner Steppin’ In It plays live on the Piazza stage at the Commons from 6:30-9:30 PM!

In addition to live music, the AmeriCorps event will include a Volunteer Service Fair featuring local area non-profits as well as food, drinks, and Michigan-inspired apparel with a percentage of proceeds benefiting Michigan’s AmeriCorps. Tickets to the public are on sale now at participating sponsors listed below, $10 in advance (Pleasanton Brick Oven Bakery, Left Foot Charley, Higher Grounds, High-Five Threads, Mana, United Way, Oryana, Habitat for Humanity & SEEDS) or $12 at the door.

The 300 + members that attend Michigan’s AmeriCorps Annual Service Weekend dedicate their time year-round to serve different organizations that benefit our local communities. This year the Service Weekend is being held in Traverse City and these dedicated Michigan’s AmeriCorps members will be working on projects throughout our community all weekend.

See Rusted Root at the Wine Festival on June 30th!

The Traverse City Wine & Art Festival is very excited to announce the headliner for the 2012 festival, national recording artist Rusted Root.

Rusted Root features founder and band leader Michael Glabicki (lead vocals, guitar), Liz Berlin (vocals, percussion) and Patrick Norman (vocals, bass, percussion). Glabicki says “We are a band made up of individual musicians who come together collectively to create music, call it what you want but we are simply creating music that has a message.”

Rusted Root has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide, and Traverse City’s own Rick Coates observes that the message has been resonating with fans for nearly 20 years. Get all the info about Rusted Root (including their new work) at rustedroot.com. Below is Send Me On My Way, interestingly enough chosen by NASA engineers as the “wake-up” music for the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity Sol 21.
